Legislative Accomplishments:
Passed an increase the state minimum wage in 2007 to support economy-boosting jobs and led the citizen campaign in 2014 to boost the minimum wage to $9.00
Doubled funding for Every Woman Matters – so women in need can access lifesaving breast cancer screenings and treatments
Expanded the state childcare program so more working families can access affordable quality care and provided leadership on critical investments to expanded early childhood education
Increased investment for affordable housing so more families have a safe place to live and secured funding for homeless children and homeless shelters
Established the first of its kind program to improve acceptance of food stamps at Farmer's markets to help more citizen’s access fresh fruits and vegetables and to support our local farmers
Secured millions in new funding to serve citizens with developmental disabilities
Secured resources to help keep college affordable and secured a temporary tuition freeze
Created a scholarship program for children of first responders who are killed in the line of duty
Passed bills to improve the workers compensation system ensuring the rights, health, and safety of our workforce
Passed the Small Business Innovation Act to improve our economic development programs for small businesses and entrepreneurs
Passed legislation establishing Benefit Corporations for private businesses to enhance social benefits to education or the environment
Supported historic property tax relief for all homeowners
Passed a bill for $1.8 million to invest in pediatric cancer research
Passed legislation to expand the homestead exemption to support more seniors
Passed legislation to increase penalties for violent crimes
